Associate Professor in Applied AI in the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences - Heriot-Watt University
In 2023, Dr Aylett was appointed as Associate Professor at MACS at Heriot-Watt University. Heriot-Watt was founded in 1821 and has a strong tradition in applied engineering. More recently, the university has worked actively on the global stage with campuses in Dubai and Malaysia among others. MACS has an international reputation in natural language processing (semi-finalist of the Alexa challange 2023) and is the home of the National Robotarium , a bespoke £22.4m facility funded in partnership with The University of Edinburgh as part of the £1.5bn Edinburgh and South-East Scotland City Region Deal.
Dr Aylett is part of the Edinburgh Centre of Robotics , works within the Interaction Lab at the University of Edinburgh where his research interests are focused on conversational interaction with artificial agents and embodied robots. Dr Aylett has bought his extensive experience in speech technology and also his commercial background as CTO of CereProc to Heriot-Watt.
